Holly Mackay Art

Holly was trained formally as a painter and holds a BFA from an Art College in Scotland. Fundamentally informative to her work, she recalls a childhood ensconced in the rich eclecticism of the Venice canals of LA in the 70's. Also influential were summers spent with family and friends in the small fishing villages of Cornwall, England. Her love of the sea, emphatic curiosity, and fearless belief in the ability of her fellow human beings define Holly's Inspiration for her Art.

All of the sketches above were done on location and in sketchbooks. When I travel I take a small sketchbook, a number 4b pencil, sharpener or exacto knife, putty rubber, nibbed pen, India ink and a small Windsor and Newton watercolour set. Sometimes I take a small tin of chalk pastels too.
